Hello folks!
First of all I’d like to apologise. Being a bit of a techno-phobe, I thought I’d sent this already but had no idea either what I was doing or how to check it had sent.
I had infact sent the listings to myself and nobody else. Handy.
So after some much needed remedial I.T. training, this will hopefully be a success.
The remainder of Novembers listings.
Tonight 15.11.11 at 20:30 we have Magic Mark and Chemical Steve’s music quiz.

It starts tonight at 20:30 and I’ve even been told that there may be some “visual” stimulation!
Guarenteed to be a great time with prizes for the winners.
Thursday 17.11.11 at 20:30 we have Quiz II in aid of the Ruby Lambert trust.

Thursday 24.11.11 at 20:30 we have Griff and Nikki
Griff and Nikki, two local heroes doing what they do best. Here’s what they have to say.
Born in Manchester, now living in Frome Somerset. God’s country. Spent several years in Liverpool in different bands during the 70′s. Mainly in acoustic bands doing the folk circuit. Spent a bit of time in Paris busking wrecking my throat, pretending to be Joe Cocker until a drunk pissed in my guitar case, a French fight broke out, a woman …screamed, and I took it as a sign that there were pastures new to be explored. Moved to the South West and started up in a band called the Havana Fireflies – check out Myspace site. A couple of great albums with them and discovered I could write songs, got into lyrics and, as they had no singer, realised that I was it. What a band… the boys done good. Then with a band called the Skeeters (mostly the same line-up but with a funky bluesy yen) which, for a time was! a pretty hot outfit that ripped places apart. Still playing with these people. Professor Paul Hartshorn on guitar, Steve Loudoun, vocals, Blair Keltie, drums, Steve Hurd, bass and Nikki Mascall on vocals who joined in 2000. Great 3-part harmonies, solid rhythm section, great material and a penchant for going in different places. Now doing an acoustic duo with Nikki Mascall, one of the finest voices I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. A leaning towards country music with soul, blues and some soul/ reggae…we play what fits the room. Great vocals from Nikki, not bad harmonies from me and nice two guitar stuff with a lot of slide guitar. It’s good. We’ve come a long way and developed our act and I’m really proud of what we do.
And finally Sunday 27.11.11 we have the wonderful, Zora and the Tatsmiths.
Folk-roots sensation the Tatsmiths burst onto the Brighton music scene in spring 2009. They quickly gained a reputation for their fresh, punky, folk pop sound and their raw, outspoken and often funny lyrics. Fronted by Zora’s powerful, gritty and soulful vocals, the Tatsmiths have been leaving revellers with a lingering earthworm and a rhythm in their step throught the Southeast ever since.
And don’t forget folks! Now that the weather is less than desirable, we here at the Griffin want to give you something to warm the soul. So every Sunday from 13:00 until 17:00 we will be serving pie and mash with peas and gravy. The perfect winter warmer.
And with prices as reasonable as this, who can afford to miss out?
Just a pie and the trimmings, £5.00. A pie and beer £7.00. A pie with cider or fizz is £7.20.
Beautiful.
Phew! The P.C isn’t smoking, I haven’t cried yet and I think this has sent to you all!
Hope to see you all soon.
Hello folks!
Here’s a brief rundown of the events being held at your favourite pub in the world!
Tonight we have all the cool cats in town with our laid back Jazz night. So sit back, relax and soak up the timeless rythym’s we all love. Nice.
Monday nights we have our legendary quiz where Quiz Master James will put the grey matter to the test. The prizes up for grabs are money, crisps and of course beautifully prepared beer!
Tuesday 13/09/11 we have our open mic night.
This is a stormer, not only does it give all of you budding musicians the chance to share your talent locally. It also offers a fresh insight into the musicians to look out for in the future.
You never know, I might even get up there and murder a classic or two!
Tuesday 20/09/11 we have Graeme Lawson and Pierre Shepherd tantalizing those music muscles with their famous music quiz. You think you know your stuff? Come and get involved! You can take comfort in knowing that you’ll be substantially better than me!
Tuesday 27/09/11 we have our fabulous Celtic group gathering. It ranges from 15 – 25 players who sit together and play a beautifully melodic tribute to the way things used to be. Perfectly family friendly and a rare chance to see so much talent in one room. Not to be missed!
If the first open mic got you taste buds tingling, maybe inspired you to give it a go? Don’t panic!
Sunday 25/09/11 we have another open mic, this will be from 14:00 so get down, enjoy our selection of freshly brewed ales (hopefully a little sunshine!) and the best local unsigned talent.
Thursday 29/09/11 @ 20:30 We have Frome’s best Country – Folk collaboration, Griff and Nikki. Beautifully melodic and enchanting. The two’s talents combine to create one of the best put together acts known. Truly inspiring.
I’ve decided to keep the sausage Sunday running as with any luck, the Indian summer we have been promised will pull through! So don’t let your spirits be dampened. Come rain or shine you can rely on the Griffin for a succulent, locally produced barbecued sausage. Beautiful.
Hope to see you all soon.
Carl.
As most of you loyal customers will know, Laura Riddiford recently left for pastures new leaving me as the new Landlord of the Griffin.
So, come and join us this weekend as we celebrate new beginnings with the arrival of…
Me!
A brief history of my background for those who don’t know. After leaving the Army, I started working in pubs and clubs, I quickly developed a skill and a taste for pub management and have since run some of the most exclusive clubs and pubs in the Midlands and Staffordshire, as well as local pubs and eatery’s. My interests include music, film and motorsport.
I believe the pub has a fantastic vibe, a great crowd and a wonderful music scene. I’m keen to keep all of that but will maybe try and add a few personal touches. For example, I love the idea of a film club. Once (unless very successful and then twice) a month, I will be screening a film upstairs for your viewing pleasure.
Tickets will cost £2.00 per seat and the film shown will be decided by means of vote.
Secondly a book club. It would be great to get some of Frome’s readers and writers together to share new experiences and discuss old favourites. Imagine, a group of friends old and new, sat aside the fireplace with one of your favourite books to hand and an award winning beer at an arms length…
Then maybe some food. What would you say to a small list of freshly prepared sandwiches and baguettes? All made with the Griffin’s legendary focus on high quality, local produce and affordable prices.
In addition to all of this as of Saturday 03/09/2011 we will be opening from 1pm (Saturday) and closing at 10.30 PM on the Sunday.
As for music, there will be a calendar of events posted shortly, I just need to finalize a few details but rest assured, there will be plenty to see very soon!
I’m really excited!
So tell your friends, your family and anyone else you know.
Come to the Griffin, I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Carl.
